Glenavon 1-3 Ballymena United
JJB Sports Premiership - Saturday, 29th November, 2008
BALLYMENA United picked up a crucial three points with this victory over fellow strugglers Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

Ryan Harper came closest to breaking the deadlock inside the opening 20 minutes or so with a dangerous looking volley which was charged down at the back post.

The Lurgan Blues were reduced to ten men on the half-hour mark when Trevor Molloy received his marching orders following a gesture to the match officials after initially picking up a booking for a poor challenge.

However within three mnutes they had moved in front when Gary Liggett nodded home from an Eamon Murray corner.

And Liggett might have made it 2-0 soon after only for his snapshot to cannon off the chest of United 'keeper Alan Blayney.

The Sky Blues levelled two minutes into the second half through Stuart King who controlled the ball from the right before delivering a low, hard cross past Tuda Murphy.

The visitors then moved in front on 59 minutes thanks to a David Cushley left-foot shot into the bottom right corner of the goal with what was virtually his first touch of the game after coming on as a substitute for skipper Gary Haveron.

And they made it 3-1 with 12 minutes remaining when another substitute, Paul McNeill, touched the ball home at the back post from a King cross from the right.
