Newry City 2-1 Bangor
JJB Sports Premiership - Saturday, 18th April, 2009
A NIALL Henderson goal five minutes into stoppage time effectively ensured Newry City's top flight survival for another season.

City started brightly and thanks to the influence of recent signing Henderson twice almost moved into an early lead.

He teed up Stephen Ferguson after seven minutes to fire just wide while, not long after, he offered up a low drive of his own which was deflected onto an upright.

It was no surprise, then, when Newry duly took the lead after half-an-hour after Richard Clarke sent a low drive into the bottom corner from some 20 yards out.

Moments earlier, though, Bangor came within a whisker of taking the lead themselves when first an Andy Morrow header was blocked to be followed by a Dean Youle close range effort which was cleared off the line.

And the Seasiders came close to levelling early in the second half when Marty Verner fired just inches past an upright moments after failing to connect to an Andy Morrow ball across the face of goal.

Then, three minutes into added time, Morrow thought he had secured a point for the visitors with a lob over Andy Coleman but, two minutes later, a Henderson corner direct from the right was adjudged to have crossed the line despite Ryan Brown's best efforts at keeping the ball the right side of the line.
