A GARY Muir strike two minutes into stoppage time handed the Whites an important victory at the Newry Showgrounds.

He grabbed the winner after they had squandered a two-goal advantage when the ball crept in at the near post after he dispatched a free-kick from the corner of the box.

Mark Cooling edged the Whites into the lead after 19 minutes with a flicked header from a long range Ryan McCann free-kick while Curtis Allen came close with a dangerous looking effort soon after.

For City Cullen Feeney headed over for City, Paul Donegan flashed an effort wide while Tony Anderson caused a few anxious moments with a low drive on 33 minutes which sailed just inches wide.

The Whites doubled their lead on 62 minutes through a low Allen shot which squeezed past Paul Murphy.

But Newry pulled one back nine minutes later when Pat McShane conceded a penalty for handball from a Stephen Garrett cross with Richard Clarke confidently slotting home.

And they grabbed the equaliser with five minutes remaining when Chris Morgan beat Philip Matthews with a right-foot shot from just inside the area.

However, that man Muir had other ideas ..........
