Newry City 1-0 Bangor
JJB Sports Irish Cup - Saturday, 14th February, 2009
A CHRIS Morgan goal nine minutes from the break earned Newry City a quarter-final tie with Institute on 7th March.

The winner came nine minutes from the interval when Richard Clarke sent the ball across the face of goal for Morgan to get the crucial touch to send it past Ryan Brown at the near post.

Morgan really should have made it 2-0 early in the second half only to somehow side-foot wide in front of an empty net.

Bangor might have levelled a little later when Jim McMenamin headed against the bar while Aaron McKee sent the ball just over.

The visitors came close again through David Irvine and Mark Magennis while, at the other end, Stephen Garrett could have settled the tie only to fire over from six yards out.
