Glenavon 1-0 Newry City
Carling Premiership - Tuesday, 2nd February, 2010
GLENAVON picked up their first league victory in almost four months with this defeat of Newry City in front of the new lights at Mourneview Park.

The Lurgan Blues enjoyed a lot of early possession and might have taken the lead on a number of occasions through James Costello who curled the ball over the bar on 11 minutes before being denied by City 'keeper Neil Gallagher a short time later.

Newry responded with an Andy Graham flick just past the post on 22 minutes before later efforts at the other end by Jay Magee and Eamonn Murray just failed to hit the target.

Glenavon came closest two minutes into the second half after Ryan Harpur drove the ball against the woodwork from some 25 yards before doing the same two minutes after the hour while Trevor Molloy's follow-up suffered the same fate.

However, the home faithful only had to wait another three minutes to celebrate their first Premiership goal since November 21st when Hugh Dickson headed home what proved to be the match winner from a Harpur cross.
