DUNGANNON Swifts dealt a blow to Portadown's hopes of securing a top six place with this two-goal victory at Stangmore Park.
The Swifts came storming out of the blocks with Ryan O'Neill, Ryan Harpur and Matt Hazley all seeing efforts blocked on the line during the opening exchanges.
After that bright start it was perhaps no surprise when Johnny Topley eventually opened the scoring on 28 minutes with a header into the bottom corner from a Michael McKerr cross from the right.
Darren Murray came closest for Portadown in the first half with a header from an Aaron Burns cross onto the roof of the net.
Dungannon doubled their advantage on 58 minutes after McKerr combined with Ryan O'Neill before delivering a cross from the right which Ports defender Chris Ramsey diverted into his own net.
And it was almost 3-0 late in the game after Emmett Friars connected with a Ryan Harpur corner only to blast the ball wide.
The Ports might have grabbed an injury time consolation when substitute Richard Lecky smashed a shot against the woodwork.
