LATE GOALS SEE REDS REACH LAST EIGHT

Release Date: Feb 09, 2013

CLIFTONVILLE left it late to book their Irish Cup quarter-final place at the expense of a determined Donegal Celtic side.

The Reds had the ball in the net early in proceedings but Liam Boyce's 'goal' was ruled out offside.

George McMullan then came close for the runaway league leaders only to be denied by a smart Niall Morgan stop.

Joe Gormley also threatened later in the first half whilst, for Celtic, Ciaran Gargan had their best moment with a 20-yard free-kick.

After the break Stephen Garrett, Ryan Catney and Boyce again all saw efforts drift off target.

Celtic might have opened the scoring on 71 minutes through substitute Joe Todd - a replacement for Mark Miskimmin - who produced a great save from Conor Devlin.

But the deadlock was broken in Cliftonville's favour eight minutes later courtesy of a Gormley finish after got on the end of a pass over the top to sidestep Murphy and guide the ball into the empty net.

And the Reds made doubly sure right at the end of normal time with McMullan penalty after Gormley had been brought down in the area by Murphy.
